3DG Launches Commercial Portfolio
1-Dec-2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC
In an important milestone for 3DG, the firm’s first three commercial clients have recently taken possession of their new spaces, marking a new stage of growth and visibility for the commercial side of the design, development and construction firm. The firm’s growing portfolio of built commercial work makes its debut on the web in an all-new section of the website, http://www.3dgllc.com/portfolio/commercial.
Commercial design can be bland and generic, but 3DG approaches the task with the same creative intensity as its high-end residential work, adjusted for the particular needs of the commercial arena.
“Our commercial clients are creative and independent thinkers, but they still have to run their businesses profitably,” stated 3DG co-founder and CEO John Goldman. “Our firm combines innovative, personalized architectural design with a level of fiscal discipline that not only improves clients’ work environments, but also actually contributes to the bottom line.”
Built Works
The new portfolio section features two recently completed projects:
- Office48 is a business-to-business retail showroom situated on a prominent corner in Washington DC’s Central Business District. Using innovative ceiling, lighting and flooring treatments, 3DG designed a visually stimulating showroom without including any physical obstructions that would limit the client’s ability to make adjustments in their display strategies. Customer response was strong and swift; after less than one year in the space, Office48 recently announced it was nearly doubling its space in the building, and asked 3DG to design the new space.
- Inscape, located in Old Town Alexandria, is one of the national capital region’s highest-volume GSA schedule resellers of office furnishing systems. 3DG designed a space that allows the client to express their personal style while maintaining a highly professional work and sales environment.
A third completed project, for the Reston-based IT contractor Scitor Corp., involved the creation of a conference room and Sensitive Compartmentalized Information Facility (SCIF), so no photographs were taken for the website.
Nearing Completion
Two more high-profile commissions are nearing completion and will be added to the site's commercial portfolio in the coming months:
- Bedrock Management, one of Washington’s most successful restaurant entrepreneurs, hired 3DG to design Comet Bar, an all-new restaurant/bar located across the street from the Verizon Center on 7th Street. It is expected to open in the second quarter of 2007.
- 3DG oversaw the adaptive re-use of an entire “Best Addresses” building into a 35,000 square-foot headquarters office for Family and Child Services, Inc., a non-profit social services organization. The tenants are scheduled to move into the space in early 2007.
On the Boards
3DG won two additional commissions recently, with design under way:
- Cyprus Air of Alexandria has purchased a historic, 2-story structure in Georgetown to create a showroom dedicated solely to fireplace technologies. As a mechanical contractor, Cyprus Air saw a unique market opportunity to create an architecturally significant showroom to highlight fireplaces not only as elements of a home’s heating system but also of its architectural design. 3DG will design the building and oversee construction.
- 3DG gained a tenant improvement commission in the legendary K Street Corridor, fitting out a 10,000 square foot office for the Council for Excellence in Government.
“We’ve been very pleased with the volume and quality of commercial work that has come to us in the past year,” Goldman stated. “To me, it indicates that 3DG fills a gap in the commercial design market: business-to-business quality service with a relentless eye on the bottom line, combined with uncompromising design quality that approximates the level of detail our high-end residential clients receive.”
